How should I enjoy the Seven Oaks experience?
Simply put............come and see. You are most welcome to visit as often as you can. Make new friends and enjoy the fellowship, message, music, and wonder of our church. Experience the love of Jesus Christ AND the love of Seven Oaks. Encourage and inspire us and we promise to do the same for you! Involve yourself in some of our many activities and help us to spread the Good News and be faithful to our purpose-----
To Know Christ and Make Him Known.
Ok, now the formalities. At some point you may want to make a committment. Here's how:
Confession of Faith and Baptism
People who have never made a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ may do so at our church and receive the Sacrament of Baptism in order to become a member of the church. Presbyterians always feel that the Sacrament of Baptism should be done as a part of the worship experience of the whole church, or a least in the presence of a representative group of the church. Presbyterians believe that the Sacrament of Baptism is for all members of the faith community, and therefore, infants and children receive this sacrament as well as adults. It is a sign of God's love and of their inclusion in the family of faith.
A confession of faith consists in affirming the following questions:
“Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world?”
“Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior, trusting in his grace and love?”
“Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his Word and showing his love?”
Transfer of Membership
For those who:
1) have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and been baptized
2) are active members in a church that transfers membership to Presbyterian Churches (e.g. other Presbyterian churches, United Methodist, Lutheran, Disciples of Christ, United Church of Christ, American Baptist, and some Episcopal churches). After you have been received by the Session as a new member, the Session will write your previous church for a certificate of transfer.
Reaffirmation of Faith
A person joining the church by this means simply states that she/he previously made a declaration of faith in Jesus Christ in another church and was baptized, but now in unable to present evidence of that action. Reasons for this may be that the previous church no longer exists, does not participate in the membership transfer process, or no longer has a record of the person's membership
Reaffirmation consists in affirming the following questions:
“Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you reaffirm your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?”
“Will you continue to be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his Word and showing his love?”
“Will you be a faithful member of this congregation, joining in worship, spiritual nurture, Christian education, and service to the Lord?”
Affiliate Membership
A person who is a member of another Presbyterian Church and who will be living in the city temporarily (college students, military personnel, temporary work assignment) may become an affiliate member. An affiliate membership offers closer church ties while maintaining home church membership. Affiliate members do not have the privilege of voting in church meetings.
