Our Program Offerings

ADULTS

    “Footnotes”

“Footnotes” is a Bible-based discussion group led by Ray Barrow for people who want to go deeper into issues of faith.

This Koinonia session “Footnotes” will be a study of The “Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. This classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of a highly placed assistant to Satan.  At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man.  The Screwtape Letters is one of the most engaging accounts of temptation and triumph over it ever written. Consider joining us in this mind-stretching and heart-enlarging discussion in the Fellowship S.S. room.

“Faith and Pop Culture”

Was it easier to live the Christian life back in the “good ole days” than it is today? How does our modern day culture impact our walk of faith? Faith and Pop Culture is based on articles written by today's leading Christian authors and published by Christianity Today magazine. This series will be led by teachers from the Roads and Anchors S. S. class in the Crossroads S.S. room. Topics for study and discussion include:

The intersection of Christian faith and pop culture entertainment
(for example, literature, movies/TV, and music).

How God can speak to us through the arts, even though it seems much
of  today's media messages are largely amoral.

How Christians should deal with and discern between entertainment that
is meaningful and appropriate and entertainment that is destructive
and should be avoided.

 Bible Study on Galatians

Galatians is one of the most impassioned letters written by the Apostle Paul.  The fundamental issue is whether Gentile believers can be saved if they don’t adopt Jewish practices.  Because this question was at the heart of Paul’s ministry and much of his writings, understanding Galatians will give us a better perspective on much of what Paul wrote elsewhere.  In studying this letter, we will  consider the cataclysmic shift in Christianity as it moves from a Jewish sect to a world religion open to all people.  We will also explore the real significance of the Law given to Moses for us today, as well as come to appreciate Paul’s apocalyptic worldview in a letter most folks don’t think of as apocalyptic.  Pastor Franklin Fant will teach this six-part study in the Session room.
